Swedish Gaming Apps reinstated
14 May 2015
Major concerns unfolded over the recent months when Swedish Gaming Regulatory Body filled complaints over major industry online gaming operators, positioning themselves as unlicensed within Sweden and targeting the Swedish igaming market place. As a result all gaming operator applications were revoked and removed from this platform. In response, Apple removed all the apps from operators in question and that of minor operators, as per Swedish authority indicators. At the time of removal gaming operators included companies such as William Hill, Betfair, Bet365 and Unibet.
With a recent intervention made possible from the Branschföreningen för Onlinespel (BOS), it will be informing Apple to reinstate the apps and make it accessible to the Swedish gaming market accordingly.
It has been affirmed by the Swedish operator association Branschföreningen för Onlinespel (BOS) that Apple intent to restore and reinstate gambling applications of major online gaming operators to the Swedish App Store.
The Swedish operator association Branschföreningen för Onlinespel (BOS) have officially advised that after carefully reviewing the enquiry of all revoked application, it concluded that the Apps were not in breach of Swedish law, as it was initially perceived by the Gaming Authority body at the time.
The Branschföreningen för Onlinespel (BOS) Secretary, Gustaf Hoffstedt, commented saying: “It is with great satisfaction we can now put this sad history behind us. “Sweden may not discriminate against foreign companies. “It has been confirmed repeatedly by both Swedish law and European Union law. “Now we can focus on shaping future gaming regulations constructively. “Together with parliament, the government and the gaming board, we want to promote a non-discriminatory licensing system that treats everyone equally.”
In a time where major elements and grey areas are becoming more vivid in the sights of Gaming Authorities across Europe, it is only safe to say that more and more governments are reinforcing resilient measures to protect their governing body interest and to leverage much needed revenue taxes from giant gaming operators, ensuring a robust, lucrative market and at the same time providing value added benefits to markets alike across immediate European societies. With a first world technology driven market such as Sweden, mobile gaming is positioned very well and gaming operators will be pleased with the latest stance from the Swedish Authorities.
