According to the press this ban could however be abolished in the near future. The government is currently investigating the existing legislation in order to possibly lift the ban. This way, the illegal gambling clubs are to be banned from the French capital.

The casino ban for Paris has been established by law since 1920. There is only one exception in this area which is the casino in Enghien-les-Bains thermal spa, which is located at a lake 20 km north of Paris. Otherwise, the law stipulated that no casinos were allowed in and up to 100 km around Paris. The only casino in Paris is considered the top-selling establishment in France. Over the years, operators have, however, a way has been discovered to circumvent the ban of casinos in Paris.

Therefore clubs were founded, which were established as a non-profit association structure. However, this fact alone contradicts the gambling nature and the clubs are an eyesore for this reason, especially to the government. Some of the establishments have been closed due to financial scandals; other clubs are currently threatened with closure. With the closure of these clubs, however, the city escapes taxes in the millions. This tax gap will now be closed by the legalization of casinos in Paris.

Operators expect the tender longing

It is not yet clear whether the change in the law is actually carried out, and if so in what form. It is not yet certain whether the major casino operators will get a chance in Paris with a new legislation, or whether only the small Casino establishments and casinos will be allowed on site. The operators, however, are prepared and look forward to the upcoming tender with regards to the actual amendment.
