About 100 sports betting providers in Germany operate websites illegally

Sports betting is very popular in Germany and even though it is not allowed to advertise it, many vendors present their products publicly although they do not have German licenses. Most of the sports betting market is in a grey area.
Vendors have licenses abroad but this actually does not allow them to legally offer sports betting in Germany. 20 licenses should have been issued for sports betting providers in Germany already years ago. The list of the providers receiving a license was already published but none of them have received a license yet.
Offering sports betting in Germany is currently so to say illegal in Germany. Nevertheless, there are about 100 vendors in Germany offering these services and they are even publicly advertised on the jerseys of the football team.
The EU Commission has cast an eye at the German gambling treaty for weeks now. Providers who should not receive a license, have already filed lawsuits. The sports betting market in Germany looks like a big mess at the moment, but there is still a large supply and some of the less “illegal” vendors even pay taxes to the state diligently, even though they are not licensed in Germany.
